The Orinoco necklace is made from seeds sustainably harvested from the lowlands of South America, including
tagua, acai and chonta, and celebrates the natural beauty and versatility of these materials. "For this particular necklace we wanted to experiment with contrasts," said Bria Bergman, Andean Collection's Director of Business Development and Private Label Designs. "This piece showcases the beauty of chonta in both its raw and polished state. The design is elevated by the contrast of the natural and vibrant colors, as well as the asymmetry of the shapes and patterns. All of these seemingly disparate qualities add up to a gorgeous statement piece."
Like Andean Collection's
honeycomb and
trapezoid necklace, the Orinoco necklace experiments with geometric shapes. "Tagua is an extremely versatile medium," says AC Creative Director, Jessica Casper. "When it's dried out it can be polished and carved like elephant ivory. Of course, it's a much more sustainable and cruelty free material! The combination of square and oval shapes is integral to this design, and fortunately the artisans we partner with were able to achieve it." Each piece of tagua in the Orinoco necklace is hand carved in
Christian and Viviana's workshop.
