After a few years spent living between London and Amsterdam, studying an Msc, working for different universities as a researcher, working in NGOs in Europe, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic, and of course travelling to visit my family in Madrid, and my husband's family in UK, Israel and Finland...I am settling very happily to start my new life in Ecuador as the new AC Production Coordinator!! In a matter of 3 weeks I had applied for this great job, had 2 interviews, packed away my life in Europe and landed in Quito!
My second day in Quito, my first day of work, I met Sarahita, who is patiently coaching me, together with the ladies at the ACNY, to teach me everything I need to know to do my new job. The best thing of this day was (of course to meet Sarah!) and to receive my welcome AC necklace, the original Cloud Forest Necklace ($54). There is no way of having altitude sickness with these natural seeds full of colour on my cleavage!
After a few days working in Quito, we headed to Otavalo, one of the most beautiful towns in Ecuador, where the biggest craft market in Latin America takes place every Saturday of the year. Here I had the honour to be introduced to the indigenous families, the artisan who make our collections possible. They are just amazing and warm hearted people; I have lots to learn from them. One of the families gave me the Jabon Necklace ($29) as a gift, and it is just so beautiful and natural! I really think it is my favourite piece!
In a couple of days we are going to Manta, to the beach! To meet and work with our tagua masters, a family of artisans who work the tagua to the perfection...I will let you know how my trip went in a few weeks!
Hasta pronto!
